X-Message-Number: 20334 Date: Sat, 19 Oct 2002 09:01:16 -0400 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: CryoNet #20332 - #20333 For Iggy: If I knew in advance that cryonics would not prolong my life I would not adopt it. I might try other things, such as the attempts to increase lifespan with new drugs, etc, but I would not bother with cryonics any more than I would bother with mysticism. And I would certainly NOT consider the failure of cryonics to be any kind of victory. Suppose I did not know in advance? Then naturally I would want to be suspended by the best possible method. How would I feel if that failed? Of course I couldn't have any feelings if it failed. Others, for personal or general reasons (the nature of which I find hard to imagine --- other than a wish to see my death) may feel the failure of cryonics to be some kind of victory. Well, some people wanted the attempt to reach the moon, or find a cure for smallpox, to fail. I would hardly wish such people happiness. So just what do you mean by saying that the failure of cryonics would still bring some goods? The only thing it could do would be to continue our enslavement by nature. Best wishes and long long life to all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=20334
