Subject: Force and the Future

Thomas Donaldson writes, and I agree: "I shall have to say that the only
interpretation I could give to Yvan Bozzonetti's "diatribe" was as a
satirical version of the fanaticism he discussed." Like many others I
deplore "kill them all" sentiments, if seriously intended. Force,
regrettably, may be justified or called for in certain circumstances, such
as defending innocent lives from harm or death, but it should certainly be
kept to a minimum. I also agree with Thomas in thinking that "bad" people
should be curable in the future, though of course that raises questions
about just who, among disagreeing persons or factions is to be considered
"bad and needing cure" and who is not. It seems likely that converting an
opponent to your point of view will be doable in the future through some
form of medical procedure rather than the fine art of persuasion alone, so
this is one more issue we will have to sort out in our hopefully immortal
future. At least the future should be a most interesting one, and, I think,
rewarding too, in spite of any difficulties--good reasons to choose cryonics.
