Subject: My visit to Dave Pizer's new Creekside Lodge

John Grigg was kind enough to mention my recent visit to Dave Pizer's new
development in Mayer, Arizona. I wanted to briefly let you all know my
impressions of it. I understand that some of you may be skeptical of the
quality of this place, perhaps thinking that it is similar to the rustic
set of cabins in Wrightwood, CA that Dave also owns. Dave didn't build the
resort in Wrightwood and just used what was there. However this
development in Arizona has been planned from the beginning to be beautiful,
comfortable, and first-class -- and I was pleased to see that he had
succeeded completely.

Calling the guest rooms "cabins" underplays their quality quite a bit. In
fact, they are attractive motel-style rooms built as separate units, with
fireplaces, large beds, and most with hot tubs. The rural setting along
the highway is easy to find, yet with a secluded feel to it. The creek and
hills behind the rooms and lodge building are scenic, peaceful, and even
romantic (I was sorry not to have my wife along with me). The lodge itself
has a small restaurant (although I got a great home-cooked meal from my old
friend Trudy Pizer and her sister, Lana) and several rooms, which may or
may not be used for guest rooms in the future. It also has a conference
room which can seat up to 80, an exercise room, and the beginnings of a
cryonics library. And if you are a stargazer, Dave has installed a
telescope on top of the hill behind the lodge.

Dave's future plans call for more guest cabins and eventually some
permanent residences for cryonicists. But even now, it is a very nice
place to visit, about 50-60 minutes drive from Alcor.

I also enjoyed meeting John Grigg for the first time. He is a lot calmer
in person than in front of a keyboard! (I am using John's trademark
exclamation point here in friendly jest. He really is a nice fellow.)

Thanks to Dave, Trudy, and all for the pleasant evening. If the rest of
you have the chance to visit, I don't think you will be disappointed.
