For Michael Hartl: basically you're correct, but there are
some details which are important. Monkeys have survived
longterm if kept at NORMAL BODY TEMPERATURE for 16 minutes
and also given special drugs (AL Bleyaert et al CRITICAL CARE
MEDICINE 4(2)(1976) 130ff); other experiments suggest survival
for even longer, even at normal body temperatures. The 1 hour
normal temperature experiments of Hossmann and Sato are
(or should be) famous among cryonicists, even though no effort
was made to keep these animals alive long term. Cold isn't
the only factor that can shut down destructive metabolism,
but in many ways it is the simplest.

Best wishes and long long life to all,

               Thomas Donaldson
