To Rudi Hoffman

I can't help you in any substantive way, but I will say this. Mike
Darwin once said of me that I had an odd attitude to life:
even before I was disabled with my brain tumor, I would say simply
that life is tough. It can be really bad. But I've always felt
that the things life hands you are to be worked against, not just
accepted. One more problem after another, so what else is new?

Since personal attitudes may well depend on both hormones and
background, I can't just suggest that you take on my attitude to
your troubles. But life is still tough. We can try to make it
LESS tough, for ourselves and even for others, and sometimes
we may even succeed a little. Still tough.

Did you ever believe that you would go through your life
without lots of trouble?

Best wishes and long long life,

                   Thomas Donaldson
