X-Message-Number: 20770 Date: Thu, 2 Jan 2003 08:23:28 -0500 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: CryoNet #20764 - #20769 My, I seem to have upset Kennita Watson again. One more minor instance of how tough life is. Kennita, it should be obvious what I am comparing life to. I am comparing the real toughness of life with all the myths about it we are taught as children and learn later are false. Santa Claus is only the earliest one: some guy in a red suit with a beard who goes around giving gifts to all the children. But Santa is only a start, we have religious notions of how we'll be rewarded if we follow Profet XYZ, all of politics, lots of nice myths about how the world is at least indifferent to us and maybe even friendly. Think of the millions of people winning lotteries! :). If your friend really doesn't understand he's been very lucky so far, but someday the Serpent hidden in life will come out and bite him or enfold him, either one. How that will happen I can't really say, there are far too many ways and places where that Serpent hides. But the world, by which I mean the Universe itself and other universes if they exist, is NOT indifferent to us. It is hostile to us, and shows us that every day ... except that our parents trained us to look away from that as much as we can. And looking around myself with a rational eye, I'd add that if there is a God then that God is our Enemy, and has been for as long as human beings have existed. Best wishes and long long life for all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=20770
