The universe we know has no malice, but neither has it mercy. A day late or a
dollar short and you've had it. Of course, there is always the possibility of
a universe we don't know, such as Tipler's Omega Point, or Bozzonetti's magic
extended present, and many others. Lullaby and (probably) good night.

This week we had a query from the brother of a man dying of cancer in
Toronto. (Toronto is one of the better places to die, with an experienced
mortician and a fine local volunteer group including CI, Alcor, and ACS
members.) The patient himself wanted cryonics, and the family were apparently
sympathetic, but no arrangements had been made. He also refused hospice care,
intending to beat the disease, although the medics thought he was very close
to death. We sent the requested information and suggested possible emergency
action in case of death before arrangements were in place. Death occurred
yesterday, and as far as I know nothing was done.
