Spiritual-god world is seen as superior to materialist, practical, necessity 
driven work. You are more paid to talk in a TV show than to turn a metal part 
on a lathe. You have a better social statute if you are a lawer than a 
technician or an engineer. All of that has religious roots.

Some time ago I was looking at a formation in metal working, I was turned 
down and got a proposal for a more serious training: How to handle a picture 
processing software. I had no need nor interest to it. There was no job 
market for it, but it was "good" on social ground.
