You prefer (or seem to prefer) the use of "equivalence" rather than
"identity". What is your reason for this preference? As you know,
in ordinary English these words have slightly different meanings,
though you are not required to use ordinary English here.

I will add that I was in no sense arguing that BITWISE identity
had any kind of basic merit. I can raise problems about it, but
that isn't the purpose of this note.
