It may be worth pursuing, but with caution. There are questions of legal liability, for example, for both the volunteers and the organizations, as well as possible physical hazards to participants. Local morticians may very well be spooked by kibitzers, in some cases already being nervous about involvement in something non-traditional. There is also a danger of too much reliance on volunteers, who have not been notably reliable in the past. As with most things, there are benefits and risks, and the details are important.
