X-Message-Number: 22369 Date: Sat, 16 Aug 2003 20:24:08 -0400 (EDT) From: Subject: Sports Illustrated / Platt quotes To anyone who has read the current issue of Sports Illustrated: My name appears several times in the feature on Ted Williams and Alcor. I hope readers will understand that the only thing I said personally to the journalist was that I did not recall details of a document which Larry Johnson said that he wrote, and I preferred not to comment on that topic. Other material attributed to me was derived from two sources: 1. A private memo which I distributed to nine people. A copy appears to have been transmitted to Sports Illustrated without my knowledge or consent. 2. Excerpts from informal conversations. These were taped without my knowledge or consent. I have spent a lot of time, often as an unpaid volunteer, trying to advance cryonics during the past 12 years. It pains me that a few fragments of text have now been used for the opposite purpose. I regret also that someone whom I thought of as a friend appears to have deceived me on a prolonged and systematic basis, along with all Alcor employees and many independent contractors and volunteers who have worked hard and selflessly for the organization. --Charles Platt Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=22369
