Subject: canadian CRYONICS events

(This is the second time I have sent this message. Canada Remote Systems
recently moved to a new building -- and they have lost many messages. I
expect that Alcor will be more careful with patients than CRS has been
with messages, if a new building is found.)

                 CRYONICS SOCIETY OF CANADA
                 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
                 190 Hallam Street
                 Toronto, Ontario CANADA
                 Sunday, May 16, 1993 16:00 (4pm)
More information: Ben Best (416) 534-0967

The main event of this brief meeting will be the election of new
officers. We may watch cryonics videos before going to dinner:

                  CANADIAN CRYONICS DINNER
                  AIDA'S FALAFAL RESTAURANT
                  553 Bloor Street West
                  Toronto, Ontario CANADA
                  Sunday, May 16, 1993 19:00 (7pm)

The cryonics dinner will be a social event. 553 Bloor Street West
is just east of Bathurst on the south side of Bloor street.

                 PRESERVING PERSONAL IDENTITY
A lecture at the Toronto "Reality and Meaning" Group
                 Wednesday, May 19, 1993, 18:30 to 21:30 (6:30pm-9:30pm)
                 St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre
                 Adult Lounge, 2nd Floor
230 The Esplanade, Toronto, Ontario CANADA

The Toronto "Reality and Meaning" group is an amateur philosophy
club. The content of the lecture, which was given to the club for
their promotions, is as summarized below:

"Evidence for the materialist view of consciousness (the mind-body
problem) will be examined, along with paradoxes that seem inherent in
the materialist view. Implications of the promise of immortality by
religions will be contrasted with the prospect of immortality through
materialism. The prospect of physical immortality through the
eradication of aging, cryonics and uploading of minds to computers
will be covered in a technical overview. Ethical, psychological and
philosophical issues concerned with death and immortal physical
life will also be examined."
