X-Message-Number: 22514 From: Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2003 09:52:22 EDT Subject: calm Jappie Hoekstra wrote about possible uncertainties in the future of cryonics organizations, as others have recently done. Interest and concern are good, and attention to detail is important, but we also need perspective. Cryonics Institute and Alcor and the American Cryonics Society and Trans Time in my opinion are not threatened, although the last two are not in growth phase. CI and Alcor have enough reliable and sensible people to avoid major errors and recover from minor ones, and to adjust to future conditions. They are dynamic, growing, and improving, although improvement is not monotone. As always, one must figure risk/reward ratios, costs and benefits, including the emotional or psychological costs and benefits, which will be perceived to vary widely. A growing number think the cost of cryonics is tiny compared to the potential reward.
