Subject: CRYONICS Cryonics Messages Available by Anonymous FTP?
Date: Wed, 19 May 93 21:29:37 -0400
From:

I'm setting up a hypertext version of the cryonics FAQ. I would like
to be able to click the mouse on the "6" in the phrase "For more
information, see cryomsg 6" in the FAQ, and have cryomsg 6 pop up.
The hypertext system I'm dealing with (the World Wide Web) can read
all documents available by anonymous FTP, so the natural way to do
this is to make the cryonet messages referenced by the FAQ available
via anonymous FTP. It's hard to predict exactly what this set of
messages is, so the conservative thing to assume is that I might make *any*
message available by anonymous ftp if it is fetchable from Kevin by
putting "CRYOMSG nnn" in the subject line of a message.

Let msgno stand for the number of this cryomsg. There should be a
cryomsg msgno.1 that lists the messages in the archive right now.
These are whatever messages I have on hand, which is roughly the
messages that either I was interested in saving at one time or I
referenced in the FAQ. I'll announce the hypertext here in about a
week, but before I do that I want to throw out any messages that
people do not want distributed in this form.

If you think you may have said things to the cryonics list that you do
not want distributed in this form, please retrieve that 8 KByte list
(message msgno.1) by sending email to Kevin () with
the Subject line "CRYOMSG msgno.1". Then see if any messages you are
concerned about are on that list. If they are, send mail to me (not
cryonet) at telling me to remove the messages from my
archive. I'll also be happy to add specific messages if asked to.

The short list in CRYOMSG msgno.1 is just an approximation of what
will be in the archive. I intend to add any past or future cryomsgs
to the archive that I find interesting, unless somebody objects.
To get a list of all past messages that could possibly wind up in the
archive, send mail to Kevin with the subject line "CRYOMSG 0000 0001".
The result will be 140 KBytes.

Discussion about the merits or demerits of this project should
probably go to just me and Kevin. If there is interesting discussion,
I'll summarize to cryonet. If you think my summary is unfair, you can
always post to cryonet yourself, but I suspect that most of the people
here really aren't interested.

Thanks.

Tim Freeman

[ Since "msgno" is 2269, you can retrieve Tim's 8 KByte partial archive
listing by sending email to me with the Subject line:
