The idea that Cryonics Institute might be forced out of business, that cryonics might be outlawed in the United States just like in France is absolutely outrageous. The solution is not to establish new facilities on a ship or scatter into the bush somewhere. The solution is to stand and fight for cryonic rights here in the USA, the one country where that might possibly be done. In my opinion, those who believe in cryonics have embraced a belief system that clearly can be considered a religion, a religion based on a disbelief and resistance to death. This avenue should be explored. Has anyone attempted involving groups like the ACLU? For that matter, has the Libertarian Party taken any position regarding cryonics? If not, why not? If not, then we have to lobby them to do so. This country was founded by Pilgrims who were driven out of every country in Europe. The Supreme Court in recent years ruled (for a while at least) that Native Americans could use peyote in their drug rituals. There is an entire body of law regarding religious belief and practice. While polygamy has been outlawed, many other things such as conscientious objection to the draft, right to non harmful sexual practices in the privacy of the bedroom, etc. have found protection under the law. The time has come to establish cryonics as a religious institution and to fight for the right to practice what we believe. Randolfe H.
