The main purpose of the offering was to raise money to purchase the building in which BioTime currently leases space. In April we made an offer to lease that building, with a one year option to purchase it for $500,000. Our offer was close to what the owner wanted, but on the same day we made it, another party made an offer that was even closer. The owner accepted the other offer. While that offer was still in the tentative acceptance stage, we prepared a backup offer for a straight purchase at $550,000. However the other offer met contingencies and became firmly accepted. So our search continues. We still want to move from our current location, and we have a real estate agent looking for other locations. So far we have raised about $85,000 from the current stock offering. The offering closes on June 30. Please phone or write us if you wish to receive a copy of the Offering Notice. This news notice is not an offer to sell nor a solicitation of an offer to buy the shares. The offering is made only through the Offering Notice. [The CryoNet does not endorse any securities offerings, but only passes on news.] Job Opening Trans Time does its accounting on computer, using the Peachtree Complete Accounting system. For many years we have been hiring part-time workers to run the system under Art Quaife's supervision. These employees have typically lasted six months to a year before moving on. We would prefer to hire a fellow cryonicist for the job, who we might expect to stick with the job for a long time. The employee spends about half the time doing accounting, and half giving general office assistance (preparing literature, getting out mailings, running errands, etc.). There is a great deal more work here that needs to get done, for anyone that gets very involved in our operation, and can shoulder responsibility and write well. This means that the position could evolve into full-time, and at higher pay. If you are interested, please give Art Quaife a call. Interviews start immediately. Annual Election TRANS TIME held its Annual Meeting of Shareholders on April 25. At the meeting, Directors for the upcoming year were elected. Here are the results: President: Art Quaife, Ph.D. Vice-President: Hal Sternberg, Ph.D. Secretary: Judy Segall Treasurer: Norm Lewis Other Directors elected, with their areas of expertise, are: Property Manager: Carmen Brewer Electronics: Stephen Kehrer Education: Annie Yount Jerry White Honored Jerry White did not run for re-election to the Board of Directors this year, because he is conducting a personal battle with AIDS. At the meeting, Art Quaife briefly recounted the history of Jerry's involvement in cryonics. "Back in 1964 I was named the Berkeley Coordinator of the Life Extension Society. In 1967, Barbara Sakitt and I held an organizational meeting to see if we could get any cryonics activity going locally. There were about six or seven people at that meeting. One of them was Jerry White; another was Dr. M. Coleman Harris. Over the next year organizational efforts were made that led to the formation of the Bay Area Cryonics Society (BACS). Dr. Harris was the first Chairman. "Dr. Harris kept the job until 1971, when he stepped down and Jerry White was elected as Chairman of BACS. Jerry remained as Chairman of the American Cryonics Society for 12 years, stepping down in 1983. "In 1972, eight members of the Bay Area Cryonics Society proceeded to form TRANS TIME. Jerry White was one of them. Among other incorporators who are still active are myself, Edgar Swank, and Linda Chamberlain. Jerry was elected as our first treasurer. "Jerry has served on the TRANS TIME Board for 19 of the 21 years since 1972. He has been a very eloquent representative for cryonics in the many interviews and public appearances he has made. During the past quarter century, he has had a hand in many projects, which include getting TRANS TIME stock qualified for issue, and acting as an assistant surgeon in suspensions." On behalf of the TRANS TIME Board, Art then presented Jerry with a handsome plaque, honoring his years of service and his contributions. He also urged Jerry to return to the Board at such time as his health permits. Upcoming Meeting TRANS TIME holds bimonthly business meetings at which visitors are welcome. The next meeting has been changed to Saturday, June 26, 1:00 p.m. at: The Home of Judy and Paul Segall 1003 Middlefield Road Berkeley, CA 94708 (510) 644-3153 Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=2313
