Subject: use of mortuaries

Basie asks:

Now that perfusion and such is done at a mortuary is some of the life
insurance used to pay the mortuary?

Since I posted the note on CI's 51st patient, I'll answer this.

There seems to be persistent misunderstanding about the agreement of CI with
the state, even though the text of the press release was spelled out.

NOTHING has changed that affects the way we handle patients, except that, in
Detroit area cases, the washout and perfusion are done at the premises of one
of our morticians instead of at the CI facility. The same people do the work,
the same equipment is used, the same procedures are followed; and the
procedures, present and future, remain under the control and direction of CI,
according to our decisions based on our research results.

Cost to the member is unchanged. In the Detroit area, the suspension fee
(minimum $28,000) includes the fee we pay to our morticians. Elsewhere, the

patient and family can either arrange separate payment to a local mortician for

whatever services they agree upon, or the extra expense can be be included in
the
fee paid to CI, using our Local Help Rider (rider to the CI contract).

Ordinarily the extra cost for members at a distance will not be more than
$7,000, or
a total of $35,000. (Overseas, costs could be somewhat higher.)
