David Hayes has given me permission to repost his email to me to
Cryonet, so here it is. It's his response regarding Dave Pizer's
questions from a week ago.

Rick,

Please understand that SA is a privately held corporation trying to make
positive changes in this industry. We are not of the mindset that
answering inflammatory questions like those posted by Mr. Pizer on our
industries very public forum can do anything other than harm Cryonics.

Mr. Pizer asked questions about issues unrelated to our announcements or
business model. We do not consider ourselves in competition with Alcor
or, are we here only to serve Alcor but his post implies exactly that.
We are a complimentary addition to all long term storage organizations
and work hard to be seen as that.

On a personal note: I have been a loyal and active Alcor member for
almost 10 years. During this time I have watched Cryonet be misused by
individuals for the sole purpose of boosting their ego through
unprofessional attacks on individuals or organizations. Charles Platt
says it best when he says "Many Cryonicists are narcissistic." As long
as his statement is true our industry will remain a fringe science.

I believe, as many do, that these public attacks hurt our industry and I
would urge all Cryonicists to Stop, or force others to stop the use of
Cryonet for the public display of personal vendettas. Cryonet is often
the first introduction people (especially the media) have when
investigating cryonics. Using it to publicly trash each other only
reinforces our image as a bunch of freaks.

Can we as Cryonicists tell prospective members to go to Cryonet in order
to understand cryonics? No, we must predicate that with "Oh don't worry
about all the crazy posts up there. We do have some weirdo's!" We will
never be taken seriously by the mainstream medical community and
ultimately our societies until we appear professional on our own public
face.

If there is a problem that affects you in our industry, then by all
means point it out but leave the personal commentary and innuendo out of
it. Mr. Pizer is openly critical of SA and has stated that he will not
use our companies' services. This is fine and his prerogative. Why
then, would he put up questions so grossly mischaracterizing my
statements for any other reason than to fuel a fire in a public forum?
I hope one day he realizes his actions perpetuate our "freak" image and
he can exercise some form of self control.

SA is always open to investigation from interested individuals. We have
an exciting story to tell and yes we have an occasional setback, but
what we are doing is hard, very hard. Still, we continue to move
forward and work at being a professional organization that cares about
not only our customers but our industry as a whole. I hope that the few
very vocal and self centered people that post based on their daily mood
will understand the damage they do to our industry and behave with a
modicum of professionalism.

I am happy to answer any questions you might have about our company with
the understanding that we are a privately held corporation with
interests to protect. Myself and my business partner David Shumaker are
open and honest about this business because we care about our industry
and believe that only through professional behavior can we move into a
time when Cryonics is taken seriously.

In regards to the comments about the damage being done to SA by ignoring
his post, let's be realistic. Only you and he continue to wildly
speculate on the issues and we have actually received requests from
cryonics members asking for information about SA services because of his
post. It seems his intention of publicly humiliating SA has backfired.

Cryonics 1. Narcissism 1000.

Only when we all act like professionals can those numbers change and for
the good of our industry, they must.

Sincerely,

David Hayes

Subject: Dave Pizer's questions

Hi David Hayes. I might be mistaken or somehow not on track here, but I
was under the impression that you were going to respond to Dave Pizer's
posts last week. Is there anything you can say publicly, on Cryonet
about that? Some cryonicists feel you've left us hanging. In the
interests of public relations, even a short statement about your website
speaking for itself, for example, would suffice at this point. Even
better would be an appearance on Cryonet Cafe at

http://network54.com/forum/54032

where your lack of response is a headline. Thanks for any statement you
can make, at all. ~~Rick Potvin.
