Subject: drowning note

I have been reminded that in cold water drowning the heart probably continues
beating for at least a short period, during which time the heat transfer is
considerably faster. With a cryonics patient, if he is simply covered in ice
with no CPR, or even in circulating cold water with no chest compression, we

don't get this faster cooling (until the washout begins). So it is possible that
the cold water drownings could mislead a bit on the optimistic side.
(Incidentally, we also need chest compression to circulate the heparin.)

However, the numbers are unclear, and for practical purposes nothing is

changed. We already knew that CPR is good if available, and we already knew that
cold is better than warm. The revivals after cold water drowning are still
helpful for our thesis.
