It's not just an expression of fact but also an expression of his own feelings: if he's really satisfied with survival of his awareness center (sorry, Dave, but we probably don't have an awareness center as such, but a circuit connecting our senses and our memories, of each of the different kinds, which would be injured by destruction of any part --- no more circuit) I cannot really argue against him on the point of values, though he may value something which simply doesn't exist. However, even if our awareness is NOT tied closely to our memories (as I just suggested that it may be) I'd find it hard to think of survival of my awareness center as equal to survival of myself. Without both my memories and my values & feelings, I would be equal (or even less) than a new infant. Not ME at all, but somebody else, just commencing or recommencing their existence. Best wishes and long long life to all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=23814
