Subject: Walford, CR, and ALS
From: Kennita Watson <>

According to
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/
amyotrophiclateralsclerosis_doc.htm ,
ALS is not an aging-related disease:
"Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig's disease,
is a progressive, fatal neurological disease affecting as many as
20,000 Americans with 5,000 new cases occurring in the United States
each year....ALS strikes in mid-life. Men are about one-and-a-half
times more likely to have the disease as women."

And according to http://www.als.ca/tenfacts3.asp:
"#3. ALS can strike anyone.
     * Male or female
     * Any ethnic origin
     * At any age
           o Some have been diagnosed as teens
           o Usual onset is in middle age"

and according to http://www.als.ca/tenfacts4.asp:
"#4. 90% die of ALS within three to five years of diagnosis
     * Some will die within a few short months
     * Some people live longer"

So if you want to say anything about Walford, CR, and ALS,
ask not why he died so early, but why he died so late. CR
may be responsible for giving him many extra years of life.

Does anyone know when Dr. Walford was diagnosed with
ALS?

Live long and prosper,
Kennita
