X-Message-Number: 24128 From: Date: Sat, 22 May 2004 08:53:14 EDT Subject: camcorder and crime Basie reported on new camera/storage devices that could allow nearly complete recording of events around you all your life. This would obviously help in the potential reconstruction of a frozen patient, but it would also help reduce crime, if the next step is taken and the data are immediately wirelessed to a secure central storage, your own or possibly shared. There would be obvious potential problems of abuse, but the advantages would be overwhelming. No crime would be unwitnessed, and there would be an immediate trigger for help in emergencies. Incidentally, there is an article in a recent issue of Reason on the net benefits of reduction of privacy. R.E.
