X-Message-Number: 2430 Subject: CRYONICS Mike Darwin Inquisition From: (Charles Platt) Date: Wed, 06 Oct 93 09:26:30 EDT I am posting this in the public area of CryoNet, because it concerns an issue which has already been raised publicly in Cryonics magazine. I understand that on this past weekend there was a meeting at which Mike Darwin faced Fred and Linda Chamberlain, Alcor directors, and other interested parties, in order to address complaints from the Chamberlains about his past performance doing suspensions for Alcor. I am told that Mike was able to refute the various complaints levelled against him. However, my sources may be biased, and I would value a general report from other people who were at the meeting, particularly Michael Riskin, the Alcor Ombudsman, who has gone out of his way in the past to maintain a position of neutral objectivity. I realize that some aspects of the meeting were confidential since they dealt with details of patient case histories, but surely it should be possible to give us a general evaluation. I have a personal interest because, although I am not an Alcor member, I am expecting to sign up in due course with another organization that will be using Mike Darwin's suspension services. Since the Chamberlains' allegations were widely published and could have had the effect of damaging Mike's professional reputation, may we now expect a full retraction from the Chamberlains? This would be good manners, to say the least, and it might also help to extricate them from any legal jeopardy that they incurred by making their baseless allegations in a public forum. --Charles Platt Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=2430
