X-Message-Number: 24347 From: "David Pizer" <> Subject: Cryonicist Declaration of Independence Date: Tue, 6 Jul 2004 22:23:43 -0700 We are considering if it would be a good idea to put a declaration of independence from death et al in one of the issues of "Physical Immortality." Below is a 1st rough draft with some ideas. Any alterations or suggestions would be appreciated. Or any comments on whether this is the right time to even consider doing such a thing. David A DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE FROM MORTALITY When in the course of mortal beings evolution, it becomes possible for one or more of such beings to find ways to attempt to end their mortality, and it becomes necessary for those living beings that desire to overcome their mortal status to separate themselves from other mortal beings who do not desire to try to put an end to mortality and who would hinder those who do so desire to end their mortality, there comes a time when those Immortalists find it necessary to separate themselves in certain ways from all those who choose death as a fitting end to their lives and try to impose that end of others. We Immortalists hold that death is an unacceptable imposition on life, and that all humans have so far evolved with this imposition. But now mankind has reached a position in its evolution where mortality may become eliminated. All humans who so desire to end their mortality have certain unalienable rights to try to overcome death. These humans who desire to end their mortality are called Immortalists and do hereby declare their independence from all other humans who do not desire immortality. No being has the right to interfere with an Immortalists' right to try to attempt to try to avoid death. The present status quo on Planet Earth is for life to come to an end in a limited time from its beginning. There are many who are comfortable with this status quo and who are attempting to maintain such status quo and force it onto others who do not so desire it. The Immortalists, on the other hand, are attempting to find ways to extend life with an ultimate goal of physical immortality. Further, we declare that life that ends in death is not the best life. Life that never ends is the best life and the most moral life for humans and transhumans (which we hope to become). As the prospects for physical immortality have become possibly more obtainable, the Mortalists have at times interfered with there development. This interference could have an effect of limiting our right to try to obtain immortality. Therefore, we the undersigned representatives of the Immortalists Community, appealing to the highest morality possible, do hereby declare our desire and right to be free from mortality and we do hereby dissolve our obligations to any thing that would interfere with our efforts and desires to be free from death. We mutually pledge to each other and to those who follow to do all within our power to overcome death for all humans who so desire. We evidence this by our signature(s) below: David S.
