Fahy and Wowk have worked out a simple elimination test to eliminate those that are unlikely to work. Quite valuable. As for your suggestion, if you got it from one of Greg Fahy's papers I'd very much like to know the citation. I have a pile of his papers but don't recall any suggestion about ETSO. Of course the value of a cryoprotectant should be judged by how well it works in practice. I will look through their papers to see myself if I have one that makes that suggestion.
