I'm with you here, Steven, but think the current discussion
may have been born of the charter of Cryonet not being
made clear.  I went to cryonet.org hoping to find something
about it, and came up with this from message #14526:

As described, CryoNet is an announcement list,
not a discussion list.  Perhaps it is time to
revisit the charter, or to make some sort of
master list of mailing lists and their different
charters so that people can more intelligently
decide which one(s) to participate in?
