Chicago Mayor Unveils Surveillance Plan

CHICAGO - More than 2,000 surveillance cameras in public places would be 
tied in to a network that would use sophisticated software to spot 
emergencies or suspicious behavior under a plan announced Thursday by 
Mayor Richard Daley.[cont.]

This trend will only continue in this uncertain itme with crime and 
terrorism. We need to be contacting the ACLU and like agencies for the 
purpose of changing laws so that those that watch us can in turn be 
watched by us. It is illegal to video cam or photograph government and 
some corporate surveillance systems. Since one cannot always be sure 
where these are it often meansfiat rules against even carrying cameras 
in certain locations. This is getting to be quite a problem when many 
cell phones today have cameras of both still and video variety. It will 
become an ever bigger issue when the day comes that wearable computing 
and video interfacing, ala Steve Mann's system, is common and then 
beyond that when one can merely record what comes into one's own eyes it 
truly will be a conundrum.

It will require that laws adjust long before these outcomes reach fruition.
