Subject: Providing a friendly atmosphere on cryonet for Moslems and others

Hi Thomas,

First, thanks for all your many posts to cryonet, which i think
are informative and insightful.

I do believe, however, that it's important to keep cryonet friendly
for Moslems (and other religious and non-religious groups), on both
moral and on practical grounds:
  (1) we don't know who will be tending our frozen bodies
through the years, or even what country we will be in
  (2) we don't have a shortage of people who oppose us

So i feel obliged to publicly respond to your writing:

I think that subverting democracy in Iran (installing the shah),
stealing oil, maintaining troops on sacred sites, and a long list of
other such activities provide all sorts of concrete reasons for
resentment. Further, i think these activities tend to retard the
development of advanced science. Individual devout Moslems in the
West don't seem to have any problems excelling in the sciences and
engineering. That is to say, _if_ there are Moslems who think we are
(relatively!) intellectually advanced (and such Moslems are somehow
unaware of our blockage of stem cell research, etc etc) _then_ these
Moslems do not think our advancement stems from our non-Islamic
nature---there are too many simpler explanations.

I personally know at least two Moslems who are interested in
cryonics, or at least don't dismiss it out of hand, and i'm sure
there are Moslem lurkers here---to whom i say, "Come, join us,
help us all win the fight against death".

Thanks again for your continued posting on cryonet, for your donations
to cryonics causes, and for waging your earlier fight for a right
to be frozen.

dan
