TO Michael Price:

While the basics of what I'm about to say can be criticised due to
the lack of any real examples, I believe that extreme longevity
itself will change us, and for the better. Now if you are cruel
to someone, or cheat them, or injure them in any way, it's easy
to get away with it because both you and that someone won't live
long enough to meet one another again. But if you know that you'll
have to deal with someone repeatedly in the future, then you'll
know also that treating them badly will come back to you, with
interest.

There are other ways in which extreme longevity (what people now
might identify as immortality, compared to their brief lives)
will change us, too. That's worth an essay, which I don't have
time to provide here and so I won't. But even without any other
modification than "immortality" we'll change a good deal.

Best wishes and long long lives to all,

                  Thomas Donaldson
