Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Brain activity preceding a conscious decision and motion, as described in Scott Badger's posting is most fascinating. As I understand this, it means that decision making is a process we make almost involuntarily in some instances. Our brain processes a thought "my hand is touching a very hot stove" for one-half a second before it tells the hand to pull away. It is that half second "processing delay" that causes us to burn ourselves. Am I correct is assuming that when someone tells us something, a mental process (running automatically like a computer program) analyzes the facts and decides for us whether we believe the person is telling the truth or is lying. I would think this would be scientific evidence that "we" as functioning minds really are a series of "programs" that automatically process information and direct physical or intellectual responses.
