For Bob Ettinger:

C'mon Bob, you've misquoted me again. I didn't say that I would simply
be satisfied by feeling the same as if I were identical to my previous
self. I said that I would be satisfied with that situation IF ALL THE
HYPERADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE WHEN I WAS REVIVED COULD NOT FIND
ANY DIFFERENCE. It may be that you have decided that the possibility
I gave in that IF clause simply could not happen, so that it could
be ignored. I would not have put that clause there unless I thought
that it could NOT be ignored.

For whatever it means, my future version even if not me would likely
be happy to continue existing, and not feel troubled by the fact
that it didn't have the same QE as its original. If that lack becomes
verifiable, then (given that its a copy of me) it might feel a bit
troubled for a while, but get over it.

Basically it seems to me that if we assume that our QE is a physical
entity in the broadest meaning of that phrase, then someday means
will be developed to say whether or not one QE is a continuation
of another. This remains even if we take the very broadest sense
and assume that a QE is a connected set of information. I now know
of no way to do this. Anyone who argues that no way will ever be
found would look to me as if they are talking metaphysics.

Best wishes and long long life to all,
and best of the Season, too,

                          Thomas Donaldson
