X-Message-Number: 25452 Date: Fri, 31 Dec 2004 08:57:49 -0500 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: CryoNet #25442 - #25451 I shall try to be brief because it's getting late here. 1. for Valera, we know that electronic signals aren't essential to the working of our brain because both humans and animals have been lowered to temperatures in which their brains cease to show any electronic activity at all, and then after rewarming show no apparent loss of identity. You may wish to argue that those who have had this experience lost their QE and got another one when they were warmed up. This notion comes too close to metaphysics. 2. for RBR, I note in all your discussions that DUPLICATES somehow play an important role. I will point out that just because I am in a state in which a duplication is possible it does not follow that I will be duplicated. If I understand your arguments the problem with recreating me from a record comes from the possibility of duplicating me. Why do you continue to believe in the importance of an irrelevancy? If you want me to justify what I've said about your arguments, then I will go back and get them from previous issues of Cryonet and the role of duplicates in your argument will become clear. I'd like you to argue that a recreation of me from a (sufficiently good) record will or won't have my QE WITHOUT raising the issue of duplicates at all. And note I said "recreation", which means that somehow I ceased to exist although the record of me continued, and then someone came along and recreated me from the record. Best wishes and long long life to all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=25452
