Subject: CRYONICS Cryonics Business Failures

To: CRYONET

Everybody seems to be making a big deal about the prospect of
cryonics business failures. However, I believe that most of the
comments and concerns are missing the point. It doesn't matter THAT a
cryonics business fails. It only matters HOW it fails.
There has not been a cryonics business failure for over 15 years
now. There has not even been a patient lost in that time. In fact,
there has been co-operation to transfer, neuro-convert and save
several patients whose funding was running out. I believe that this
trend will continue. There are just too many wise, caring, wealthy
and responsible people in the cryonics movement now to ever let a
Chatsworth senario happen again.
Patient funding is getting better protected with each iteration of
the cryonics organization. I am a strong CryoCare supporter. I
believe that the CryoCare - Patient Care Trust structure will be the
best yet for protecting patients and their funding. But I don't
believe for a minute that CryoCare itself will endure for any great
length of time. In fact, I don't really care whether it does or not.
What I DO care about is that its patients and their funding are
preserved and will endure until the patients are revived. These are
two completely separate concerns.
Even with all Alcor's troubles, there does not appear to be any
real chance of danger to their patients or the patient's funding.
Even though Alcor appears to be draining its Endowment fund at an
alarming rate, members with loved ones in suspension are watching
carefully to see that the patient care fund is kept intact. And much
as I disagree with the policies of those in charge at Alcor, I still
trust and expect them to care properly for the patients and their
funds. If they should run dry of operating money and have to fold
their organization, they could carry on as just a long-term care
organization or they could transfer the patients and funding to some
other organization and service provider.
MY POINT IS THAT I BELIEVE THAT CRYONICS HAS NOW MATURED
SUFFICIENTLY THAT THERE IS AN EXCELLENT CHANCE THAT CRYOPRESERVED
PATIENTS WILL ENDURE EVEN THOUGH CRYONICS ORGANIZATIONS MAY FAIL.
