The energy requirements could easily make such wild ideas derived from string theory uneconomical. But then there are physicists who are speaking about deriving an infinite amount of energy from the quantum vacuum. I believe the basis for the argument stems from a test done where two stainless steel plates separated by a short distance in a vacuum resulted in the two plates being attracted to one another and the closing of the space between them had the net effect of producing electricity. There are no mystical experiences. The use of the word results from a lack of understanding in science. You might want to check out the newer theories in physics that are starting to gain popularity. I recall a mind blowing episode on PBS within the last year or two on string theory. If memory serves me correctly, I think m-theory is the one most likely to set your britches on fire. In the end, a theory is just a theory does not mean it is correct or anything derived from it will ever happen. I can see you won t be upgrading your biological cells for something that is man made anytime soon. That is okay with me - to each his own. I think the new subcultures in advance of anything today should be respected, valued, and given due space to live out their existence as they see fit. But ultimately, the final decision will rest with the most advanced culture. Let s hope the most advanced culture is benevolent or your robot protectors won t do you much good.
