Subject: Vitrification + Whole Body Protocols

Ben Best's post #25700 regarding Cryonics Institute's current capability of
vitrification of the upper body is certainly welcome news. If I am reading
this article correctly, the sole current option for the remainder of the
body is a straight freeze.

Alcor, on the other hand, claims in their January News Bulletin (posted on
their site) to be very close to vitrification of the head and
cryoprotectant to the body. They cite the need for some equipment
finetuning and some chemicals they do not currently have, one being
1-O-methyl-rac-glycerol which they are contracting to have manufactured at
a reasonable cost. So far though, if I understand it correctly, Alcor's
sole current option for the remainder of the body (if preserved) is to
separate it and preserve it with older protocols.

I would be curious if Ben or anyone would have any insightful comments
regarding the approach being pursued by Alcor, and/or how it or something
similar might be applied to CI patients.
