In msg #2568, Franz Amador makes a lot of comments about
overpopulation that I disagree with. I will comment on one:

    ...I don't see how substantial increases in lifespan could avoid
    forcing matching decreases in birth rate, and immortality would
    mean no children at all.  This would be a real loss to humanity,
    and the thought distresses me.

Everyone can be immortal and still have -one- child. The population
will eventually stabilize at twice its initial value, because

   2 = 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + ...
