Not only that, but I would say that my feeling in suspending Daisy were the same (but not as strong, to be frank) as those I'd have in wanting a relative or very close friend to be suspended. As they become closer to us, different species of animals come closer to our feelings and even our understanding. When I was doing my PhD at U of Chicago I had a pet monkey, and it was very clear while I lived with her that she had more feelings and understanding than either a dog or a cat. (When I left UC, it turned out that I could not take her with me. I spent several months looking for a new owner for her --- and one unbreakable requirement for a new owner was that he or she had already owned a monkey). Verbeke is being very careless about the feelings and even the understanding of animals. Yes, it depends on the species, of course. But animals such as apes and monkeys, who come closer to us in brain power than any other species, also come closer in understanding. Best wishes and long long life to all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=25737
