Subject: Legitimizing Cryonics (please read at least to third paragraph)
References: <>

Cryonics is tainted due to the ignorance of the vast majority of the populace,
which cannot perceive that the foundations of the life and death cycle we all
have been brought up with may not be carved in stone. Therefore many would
consider the very attempt to radical life extension through cryonics as much
as blasphemy as the religious establishment did Copernicus' heliocentric world
  system 500 years ago.

There is always a threat, that cryonics will sometime in future fall victim to
fundamentalist movements, bound at destroying something as much against the
"rule of God" as cryonics. The big problem is, that the rest of the
population won't care enough to counteract any aggressive moves by the
  fundamentalist.

I have today seen in a local Vancouver paper an article, which could bring us
not only some insurance against destructive action of fundamentalists, but
also establish legitimacy of Cryonics Institute and Alcor in the mainstream
  population.

The article tells of a growing number of women who have their umbilical cord
fluid cryogenically preserved, for use of the stem cells contained therein as
an insurance against the degenerative diseases.

  See: http://www.lifebank.com/lifebank/

There appears to be, judging from the article, a groundswell of acceptance at
least here in Canada, which is only limited by the speed of distribution of
  information about it.

If both Cryonics Institute and Alcor would establish new 'front offices'
providing similar services, it would IMOEO go a long way to establish
  legitimacy in the general populace.

Making the new companies adjuncts to Alcor and CI will not fly. Rather new
companies should be incorporated, which then purchase the facilities from the
cryonics institutions (for a dollar?) and lease them back to C.I. and Alcor,
so that the new companies, which share their technically compatible facilities
with their tenants, CI and Alcor, will be the 'main players'.
