Subject: 171'st update on fly longevity experiments

This is the 171'st update of my fly longevity experiments. Average
temperature was 21.5 C during this run. Estimated maximal longevity using
 the formula (363 - T*11.2) is 123 days.
Low doses of white kidney (or canolini) beans have increased
longevity in several past runs. This run checks out a white
kidney protease inhibitor extract called phaseolamin 2250. A glycation
inhibitor related to thiamine called benfotiamine, and a muscle damage
inhibitor herb called rhodiola rosea fill out this run.
Not to any great surprise, both benfotiamine and rhodiola rosea
turned out to be duds. In the past other glycation inhibitors
(eg thiamin), and muscle damage inhibitors (eg bromelain) were found to
be inactive in altering fly longevity.
The fact that the "anti-obesity" extract phaseolamin turned out also
to be ineffective, makes me wonder what the active prolongevity
ingrediant(s) are in white kidney beans. Since cooked beans were tested,
about that can be said at this point, is that the active ingrediant(s)
 is(are) heat stable.
