X-Message-Number: 26292 From: "John de Rivaz" <> References: <> Subject: Re: Paul Allen Date: Mon, 6 Jun 2005 16:30:11 +0100 It has been suggested that cryonicists get Paul Allen (co founder of Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2000/Sept00/09-0525bookff75.mspx ) interested in cryonics. It seems that once again it is necessary to refer those with such proposals to the CI web page http://www.cryonics.org/whydontwe.html >>[Why don't we] Try and get famous people interested? They are very unlikely be willing to spend the time evaluating cryonics personally, and any assistant is going to find it less demanding on his own time to dismiss the idea out of hand. << Even the leaders of the cryonics organisations are nonentities to such people, never mind those new to the cryonics movement who come up with these ideas. It has been tried often enough in the past to no or little avail and I can see no benefit in assailing the offices of these people like a swarm of angry wasps, even though there may well be very sound logic in cryonics ideas. What we can do is to have web sites and other material available and hope that they will come to us. Indeed this may have happened already, but they have "ticked the no publicity box". Most people in the developed world have heard about cryonics. This is because cryonicists as a group are highly fortunate in that it is a popular subject with journalists and broadcasters. Just look at http://www.cryonics-europe.org/media.htm If Paul Allen or anyone else wants to consider cryonics, they can do so without anyone in the movement even knowing about it until and unless they have decided, without any direct persuasion, to give money. The very last thing these people want is to engage in conversation and have someone clinging to them like a limpet until they part with money. They get enough of that sort of thing from charities that want to give their money to the organisers so that they can give it to Africa and the suchlike. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley R eeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=26292
