Just do the math. < Society affords looking after aged people. Political systems that exterminate them do not last long. The costs of looking after aged people for just one year are well in excess of Alcor and CI's cryopreservation fees. At home in the UK the cost is of the order of $125k/yr and are subject to substantial inflation well over the average. If the aged are concentrated into care homes, the cost is about a third per person if the care ratio is 8. But bear in mind that the cost for a couple in the same house is the same as for one person in the house, and therefore for a couple the costs of the care home are two thirds, not one third. The costs quoted for "in own home" care do not include the cost of food or running the house, local taxation etc. The average duration for a patient in a care institution is about three years before death. I don't recall seeing a figure for care in the patients own home, but it is likely to be considerably longer because they would be in a better psychological state and the care ratio is very much better.. Of course some patients perish without ever seeing the inside of a care home, and I do not know what the average ratio is. Whatever all this adds up to, society affords it! -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=26502
