X-Message-Number: 26503 From: "John de Rivaz" <> Subject: for Pizer: Robert Ettinger promising resurrection and eternal life Date: Mon, 4 Jul 2005 14:24:53 +0100 From: "David Verbeke" <> >>> A couple of years ago Robert Ettinger said in Future Fantastic on BBC world, and I quote: I predict that within the next couple of centuries, at most, our patients in cryonic suspension will be revived and rejuvenated to live and love again for as long as they choose. I remembered being upset when I heard him making such a claim. <<< It wasn't a claim, it started the words "I predict". On http://www.alecharleyreeves.com there are many predications this PCM pioneer made in the 1960s and early 1970s about the future of telecommunications and the place of his inventions within it. They were originally made to fellow engineering professionals at lectures originally delivered at the premises of professional institutions. No one in their right mind would try to sue him (if he was still alive) for the fact that some of them turned out to be wrong. This is despite the fact that the predictions were made in a highly professional environment where a legal adventurer could suggest that he was laying the foundations for more grants, fees or whatever - "pecuniary advantage", I think lawyers call it. **** Eivind Berge rightly expressed revulsion for the notion of suing or coercing someone ostensibly for their own good. This attitude of society at large is much more damaging to cryonics. The use of legal force to dissect a person who would otherwise be cryopreserved is an example. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=26503
