X-Message-Number: 26584 From: "John de Rivaz" <> Subject: Suing about God: Who Mourns for Adonis Date: Tue, 12 Jul 2005 10:49:07 +0100 Those still interested in this subject may recall the James T Kirk Star Trek episode "Who Mourns for Adonis?" In it, the intrepid space travellers are trapped on a planet by the ancient Greek god Adonis, and have to find a method of escape. It may well be that the writers would have liked it to be about a modern interpretation of the concept "god" but to avoid offending anyone chose a version of the deity that no one considered seriously these days. However it is interesting to note the method the authors considered would have been successful under the circumstances, and it certainly did not involve violence of any sort, verbal or otherwise. ( If God is upset by violence, why is it necessary to put lightening conductors on church towers? ) -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=26584
