X-Message-Number: 26875 Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2005 05:05:15 -0700 (PDT) From: Tru Numberman2 <> Subject: Counting is simple. Totaling and comparing the number of people signed up for cryonics in each of the organizations is, contrary to Ben's contention, a simple matter. The central feature of a sign-up is that a person has arranged verified funding for the fixed cost of the primary cryonics operation and storage with a cryonics organization. All other factors and costs involved that Ben cites can be understood to revolve around that central financial commitment. At Alcor 758 people have made such an arrangment, and at CI, 211 have done so. There appear to be a 103 that have such an arrangement at ACS. The blizzard of other relevent features Ben raises are interesting and worth considering but are minor when measuring the actual intent of a person to take the cryonics gamble thus making him or her a cryoneer. It's important to the cryonics effort to count the number of people who have expressed serious intent, ahead of time, to be cryonically preserved so that both we and the world understand the level of success or lack of success we're having in convincing mankind to try to scientifically avoid death. At this time, 1,077 people are expressing this intent.
