Two interesting things today, in my opinion:

An article on future "anti-aging" shot on Yahoo!:

 	http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20050825/hl_hsn/isalongevityvaccineontheway

and Cornell University is now offering an entire class devoted to
the goal of an end to senescence and aging (well, studying background
material on aging, too):

PSYCH 527 BIONB 420-02, BIONB 720-05
The Quest for Agelessness. Prof. Bruce P. Halpern
Credit Hours: 4 credits
spring 2005 W 3:30-5:00
Prerequisites: An introductory course in biology or psychology, plus a
second course in neurobiology or biopsychology. A course in biochemistry,
genetics or molecular biology, or equivalent, is strongly recommended.
Grading Option: Letter or S-U.
Day/Time: Wednesday 3:30-5:00
Enrollment limit: 30
Final exam?: No final examination. A course-related web site or a
term-paper in digital format will be required.
Description: This seminar course will be an overview of the
molecular-biology-of aging. Connections to the sociobiology of science and
molecular biology entrepreneurship will be considered. The focus of this
course will be the book: ~SAgeless Quest: One Scientist's Search for Genes
That Prolong Youth~T. Lenny Guarente, Hardcover, 2002, Cold Springs Harbor
Laboratory. ISBN: 0879696524. List Price: $19.95. The readings provided in
the book will be supplemented and expanded by current on-line journal
articles, reviews, and other references. Brief written statements by email
of questions and problems related to each set of assigned readings will be
required in advance of each class meeting and will be automatically
distributed to all members of the class. This course will be taught using
the Socratic Method, in which the instructor asks questions of the
students. Students will read, analyze, and discuss in class difficult
original literature dealing with the nature of aging, the molecular
biology of aging, and potential interventions. Students are expected to
come to each class having already thought about the background, methods,
results, and conclusions of the assigned readings, and to take an active
part in every class. A course-related web site or a term-paper in digital
format will be required.
