Some comments on messages in the 17 Sept Cryonet: I think Beth Bailey is quite correct, unfortunately. Peter Merel seems to have a notion of how other people behave that suggests that so far he's lived a very fortunate life. I hope he continues to live that fortunate life, but also notices how most people do not. Sooner or later, old or young, most people meet with someone who wants to take from them and give them nothing, or even damage them, in return. Yes, we're better off than in the 20th Century (so far!) and better off than in the 19th etc but the problem still persists. And if you want to see an example of what used to be, only a few hundred years ago, totally acceptable practice, look at some of the current African states with starving populations and rich dictators. To Eugen Leitl: The recent article in PNAS.USA looks interesting but it came too late to go into the latest issue of PERIASTRON, which has followed research on how to lessen or prevent brain damage by ischemia or hypoxia for at least the last 8 years. Naturally I'll look at that paper in comparison with other work published in lots of neuroscience journals AND the PNAS over the years. Virtually every issue of PERIASTRON has at least one article discussing this problem. If you wish for a sample issue I will send you an OLD one for free. If you wish me to send the latest issue, send me $US 4.00 in a check to me to PO Box 208, O'Connor, ACT 2602, AUSTRALIA. And of course I will need your own address. Best wishes and long long life, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=27072
