Subject: does politics substitute for mortality?

Hello again!

I sent off the latest issue of PERIASTRON yesterday, for all of you who
are subscribers. There are a few copies left if you want to look at a
sample: send me US $4.00 and your mailing address and I'll send you
one of them.

I suspect that dss could actually say something, but unfortunately he
remains in the same discussion as before. There's (perhaps) much more
than simply an interest. If you aren't willing to think about important
issues such as your own death, then thinking and talking about politics
might provide a very good substitute ---- so good, in fact, that
concentration on politics may account for an absence of thought on
serious personal matters. Not only that, but you'll have lots of people
happy to join you in your concern.

One time, a while ago, religion may have substituted for politics, with
even worse results. Perhaps with time people will change, and maybe
even start thinking about their aging and mortality: an event which
would greatly raise the monetary and political support of scientific
work on aging and cryonics. Looking at the world, though, that looks
like it will take some time to happen --- and everyone reading this
will be either dead or suspended (I hope suspended) when it happens.

Best wishes and long long life to all,

               Thomas Donaldson
