X-Message-Number: 27173 From: "Bryan Hall" <> Subject: Avian Flu Date: Tue, 4 Oct 2005 15:50:26 -0700 There has been a lot of discussion on the news about the Avian Flu threat. If the virus mutates so that person-to-person transmission is possible, it would likely become a major pandemic. Some governments have plans to take drastic steps to limit such an outbreak. This is a big threat to the ability to implement cryonics procedures because some government plans include quarantining entire communities, quick burial of victims, and the authorization of health officials to seize medications from doctors and pharmacies. From http://www.gazette.com/display.php?id=1310962&secid=1: In addition to allowing for quarantines that could include canceling school or even cordoning off a neighborhood, the executive orders also: c Authorize "suspension of statutes to allow for the rapid burial of epidemic victims without following normal funeral procedures, religious practices or death certificates in all cases." There is an anti-flu drug called "Tamiflu" that may slow the Avian Flu. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamiflu Governments around the world are trying to stockpile the drug, but there are currently production bottlenecks. It is probably a good idea to individually stockpile this drug. 10 pills of 75mg taken BID (2x a day) is the normal dosage, I believe. Any thoughts? -Bryan Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=27173
