X-Message-Number: 27187 From: "marta sandberg" <> Subject: Selfish altruism? Date: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 10:33:55 +0800 Please note, this posting is not political posting, but rather a humorous philosophical one. Theodorus Ibrahim's posting made me think about the Greens and cryonics. When considering a policy, my local Green group puts it to the 'smile test'. A century from now will our descendants smile when they think about our actions today? As a cryonicists I have a more direct and selfish reason for trying to work for a better world. Will _I_ smile when I think back on my actions a century from now? Maybe we should market cryonics as a way of combining selfishness with practical long-term altruistism. -:) Marta >Theodorus Ibrahim wrote: > >And I thought I was the only Green Party supporter AND cryonicist in the >whole world...... :-) > >Some of my green friends are somewhat sceptical about biostasis but >others (incredibly) are beginning to come round to the notion. > >theo _________________________________________________________________ REALESTATE: biggest buy/rent/share listings http://ninemsn.realestate.com.au Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=27187
