I envision a dedicated >solar-powered storage facility, located in the desert >southwest, with its own, redundant LN2 generating >capacity. The main advantage of self-sufficiency in energy and nitrogen would relate to disaster protection, not economics. The MARGINAL cost of a new patient at CI is already low. Nitrogen in our newest units only costs around $100 per year per patient. Cost of cryostat space per patient is around $4,000, a one-time expense. When we need a new building, of course that cost will be added. The main expenses are those of general overhead and labor, including research. These are not sensitive to patient numbers, and are shown in our financial reports.
